Turns out these are Banandium Gems, and they are way more than just collectibles.

Banandium Gems are this game’s core collectible, and they are not your typical floating coin or banana.
They are hidden inside golden bananas scattered all over the map.
But the twist?
You cannot just grab them.
You have got to break them open to get the actual gems inside, it’s kind of like cracking open a piñata.
The first time I ran into one, I tried walking into it like a normal collectible.
Nothing happened.
You actually need to destroy the outer shell using DK’s moves by punching, stomping, or throwing terrain chunks works.
They are tied directly to your skill points, so the more gems you find, the more abilities you can unlock in the skill tree.
How To Get Banandium Gems in DKB (And Where They Hide)
You will find Banandium Gems in Donkey Kong Bananza :
- Behind walls
- Underground
- Inside rocks
- As rewards for quests (like timed battles and obstacle courses)
- In hidden chests (often locked behind puzzle rooms)
Sometimes I get them by just destroying random terrain layers , you will see them the deeper you go underground, the better your chances.
I also started checking every wall that looked slightly cracked or out of place.

Also, if you’re running low, trade Banandium Chips for gems at the Chip Exchange.
You will find Chip Stations around the world map.
And if you come across treasure chests?
Open them and you will see some have maps pointing to even more gem locations.
