A few people are very curious to know if Samsung Pay can be used as a payment method at Walmart.
Walmart is one of the biggest retail giants in the world—a place where you can grab groceries, tech gadgets, beauty products, furniture, and even fishing rods… all under one roof.
So it’s only fair to assume that they’d be on board with every modern payment method, right?
Especially considering how Samsung Pay has been a convenient go-to wallet for millions of Android users who just want to tap their phone and keep it pushing.
That said, while Walmart accepts a variety of physical and digital payment options like card payments, Walmart gift cards, and even Apple Card (in its card form), we still need to settle the score: Can you use Samsung Pay at Walmart?
Here’s everything we know about using Samsung Pay as a payment method at Walmart.
Can You Use Samsung Pay at Walmart?
If you’re wondering whether you can pay at a Walmart checkout using Samsung Pay, the short answer is no—you cannot.
Walmart does not support Samsung Pay in-store at any of its locations.
The payment terminals at Walmart are configured to work with specific methods, and Samsung Pay is not one of them.
Even older Samsung phones that supported MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission)—a technology that mimicked card swipes—can’t work at Walmart’s checkouts anymore.
Newer Samsung models don’t even come with MST anymore, so that trick is gone too.
This might come as a surprise (or a bit of a letdown) for people who rely heavily on Samsung Pay to tap and pay on the go, especially since it works in so many other places.
So, What Payment Methods Does Walmart Actually Accept?
Even though Samsung Pay isn’t accepted, there are still plenty of other ways to pay at Walmart, including both physical and digital options.
Accepted payment methods at Walmart include:
- Credit or debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, etc.)
- Walmart Pay (via the Walmart mobile app)
- Cash and checks (yes, they still take those)
- Walmart gift cards
- EBT and SNAP (for eligible purchases)
- PayPal (only for online purchases)
- Affirm and other Walmart financing options
- Apple Card (as a physical Mastercard)
- Capital One Walmart Rewards Card
All of these options work seamlessly, whether you’re checking out in-store or shopping online.
Is There a Workaround to Using Samsung Pay at Walmart?
If you’re really committed to using Samsung Pay, we hate to be the bearer of bad news—there’s no clean workaround.
Samsung Pay can’t be linked directly to Walmart Pay or used at checkout. Walmart’s terminals are not compatible with the NFC tap-to-pay system Samsung uses, and they’ve also blocked MST support.
Even trying to link a Samsung Pay card to PayPal for online checkout is a mixed bag.
You’d still need to go through PayPal’s own interface, which doesn’t officially support Samsung Pay either.
So, if you’re shopping in a Walmart store, your Samsung Pay app is going to sit this one out.
What’s the Closest Alternative to Samsung Pay at Walmart?
Since Walmart doesn’t play nice with third-party digital wallets, the closest alternative is Walmart Pay, which you can find inside the Walmart app.
While it doesn’t have the same cool tap-and-go feature as Samsung Pay, here’s how it works:
- Download the Walmart app.
- Open Walmart Pay under the Services tab.
- Add your card info (same one you may have stored in Samsung Pay).
- At checkout, scan the QR code at the terminal using the app.
It’s a bit more clunky than just tapping your phone, but hey, it works.
You still get the digital convenience without pulling out your wallet.
Conclusion
Walmart might be a hub for just about everything under the sun, but when it comes to payment methods, Samsung Pay isn’t on their list.
Despite Samsung Pay’s popularity and convenience, Walmart has opted out in favor of their own system, Walmart Pay.
So if you’re used to paying for everything with your Samsung phone, this is one of those rare places where you’ll have to find another option.
Whether that means switching to a supported card, using Walmart Pay, or just digging through your bag for your physical wallet—the bottom line is: Samsung Pay won’t work at Walmart.
So, if Samsung Pay is your go-to, you may want to keep a backup method handy when it’s time to hit Walmart for your next big grocery run or tech splurge.
But if you really can’t give up that mobile wallet experience? Walmart Pay is the closest cousin you’ve got—same phone, slightly different dance.
